Rolling Bearing Life (L10) Calculation

Calculate the basic rating life L10h of a rolling bearing according to ISO 281, from dynamic load rating and actual bearing load.

💡L10 is the life in hours that 90% of identical bearings will achieve or exceed under identical conditions. For critical machinery, use a service factor and target L10h of 20,000–50,000 hours. Check lubrication — most premature bearing failures are caused by inadequate lubrication.
L10 [millions of rev] = (C/P)^p | L10h = L10 × 10⁶ / (60 × n) [p=3 ball, 10/3 roller]

Input
Dynamic load rating C iDynamic radial load rating C from bearing catalogue in kN.
kN
Equivalent bearing load P iEquivalent dynamic bearing load in kN. For pure radial load: P = Fr. For combined load: P = X×Fr + Y×Fa.
kN
Rotational speed iRotational speed of the bearing in rpm.
rpm
Bearing type iBall bearing: exponent p=3. Roller bearing: exponent p=10/3.
Result
C/P ratio
L10 (millions of revolutions) [× 10⁶ rev]
L10 bearing life [hours]
L10 life (24h/day, 250 days) [years]
